Team at UA Makes Gecko Tape - [Beacon Journal] Researchers at the University of Akron know what really holds the universe together, and -- no joke -- they have learned how to put it on tape. They call it "gecko tape" because it mimics the unique structural properties of a gecko's foot. And like the lizard, which can effortlessly run up walls and hang from ceilings, there is no glue or suction involved. The tape relies on "van der Waals interactions," a weak molecular force that binds liquids and solids together.
