The Medieval World: Europe 1100 to 1350
by Friedrich Heer

London: Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1963

Friedrich Heer is Professor of the History of Ideas at Vienna University. Born in 1916, he belongs to the younger generation of Austrian historians who worked actively against Austrian Fascism and Nazi occupation. Apart from his academic teaching and writing -- he is the author of several important works on the European Middle Ages and the History of Ideas -- he has been political editor of Die Furche, an independent Catholic weekly. Early in 1961 he was appointed, in addition to his academic posts, chief literary advisor to the Vienna Burgtheater.
