Complexity theory is changing the way leading management thinkers
are looking at organisations. No longer seen as hierarchical and rigid structures,
organisations are now being recognized as emergent, living systems which cannot
be defined by traditional organisation design and practice. Navigating
Complexity is the first comprehensive introduction to the key language and
concepts of complexity and how they relate to the new world of work. It explores
the profound, yet practical, implications of these concepts, and demonstrates
how organisations are 'complex adaptive systems' to which a whole new set of management
ideas now apply. In keeping with the spirit of complexity,
the reader is encouraged to make their own path through the maze of concepts,
using 'navigation links' to move between inter-related ideas. The practicality
of the text is enhanced by extensive case studies, diagrams, tables and illustrations.
