Journeys to the Ends of the Universe:
A Guided Tour of the Beginnings and
Endings of Planets, Stars, Galaxies
and the Universe

by C. R. Kitchin

Bristol: Adam Hilger, 1990

Journeys to the Ends of the Universe takes the reader on a guided tour of the novel and exciting concepts in astronomy and astrophysics that are currently shaping our view of the cosmos. The topics covered provide links in a chain stretching from the beginning to the end of space and time -- taking in, on the way, the births and deaths of planets, stars, galaxies and, ultimately, the universe itself.

Writing in an entertaining and undemanding style, the author provides a glimpse of the immensely powerful forces that contrive to maintain the existence of the universe, and of the bizarre complexities and paradoxes that arise from the inexorable action of physical laws on matter, energy, space and time.

Chris Kitchin is Principal Lecturer in Astronomy and Director of the Hatfield Polytechnic Observatory. His particular interests include spectroscopy of massive, high temperature stars, and the application of the methods of artificial intelligence to the processing of astronomical images.
