In The Bubble of American Supremacy,
George Soros contends that the policies of the Bush administration
have endangered the safety of our people, set back the vital
interests of our nation, and undermined fundamental American
values. Nowhere is this more clear than in Iraq, Soros writes,
where the Bush war and occupation have cost almost 1,000
American lives and nearly $150 billion in taxpayer dollars,
and severely eroded our global reputation. We now know that
the Bush doctrine of American supremacy is both unattainable
and contrary to traditional American principles.
Soros is no pacifist. He was among those
who urged the Clinton administration to take a more muscular
stand in the post-cold war era, first in Bosnia and then
in Kosovo. But he was passionately opposed to the 2003 invasion
of Iraq, because it was arbitrary, unilateral, and based
on false pretenses. He predicted dire consequences and he
proved to be prophetic. This book raises issues that should
be central to any political debate. It ought to be read
by every citizen who cares about the future of the world.
George Soros heads Soros Fund Management
and is the founder of a global network of foundations dedicated
to supporting open societies. Having experienced both Nazi
and Communist dictatorships at an early age, he learned
the importance of preserving the values of an open society;
values that are the bedrock of American democracy. Recently,
he reached the conclusion that these values needed to be
defended at home, and with that goal in mind, he has contributed
millions to America Coming Together, MoveOn.org, and other
organizations opposed to the Bush administration's policies.
He is the author of several bestselling books including
George Soros on Globalization, The Crisis of
Global Capitalism, and Open Society.
