The Hype About Hydrogen: Fact and Fiction in the Race to Save the Climate
by Joseph J. Romm

Washington, D.C.: Island Press, 2005

Not long ago environmentalists, mainstream media commentators, industry analysts, General Motors, and even President Bush predicted that emission-free hydrogen fuel cells would ride to the rescue in a matter of years.

That is proving to be a fantasy. In The Hype About Hydrogen, Joseph Romm first revealed why, and since its publication, over 200 publications nationwide, including Scientific American, Forbes, and The New York Times, have turned to this book for the real story on hydrogen.

For this new paperback edition, Romm has added an afterword showing how the field has changed in just 18 months, and offering a hype-free explanation of why the car of the future is an "e-hybrid," a hybrid that can also be plugged into the electric grid.

Joseph J. Romm served in various positions in the Department of Energy during the Clinton administration. Currently the Executive Director of the Center for Energy and Climate Solutions, and a Principal with the Capital E Group, he is the author of Cool Companies (Island Press 1999).
